[ILUG-Cochin.org] Focus on Server level implementation :- For bringing in Open Source

Hi All
  From my experience I could say that to implement free software more  , we should also give more focus on the server level solutions . Common people and almost 90% of IT desktop support people are addicted to MS OS. It is a difficult task in for de- addiction ,Lots of withdraw symptoms , frustrations they will show . We need to use some strategy in  which this addicted people wont object.
Consider a case of company with 100+ user 
         If a IT manager of 100 + user organization  want to have

      # Domain Controller 
      # Internet Sharing 
      # PBX 
      # CCTV
      # Project Management 
      # Document Management 
      # Mail Server  
        etc 

What he will be looking at ? . He will be looking for resource .If he has enough resource to support one particular technology he will opt for it . At present they are more Solution providers who are confident in giving solution in MS OS , than open source . This equation need to be changed . 

   I feel IT solutions companies should be targeted , Their MS IT support guys should be invited to the ILUG meetings , and during those meetings one of technologies which can be used for the enterprise should be done as a workshop , so that he get inspired and lobby for its use for his customers. ie more OS supporting professionals , more implementation , direct and indirect marketing for open source . IT will be a success and soon we can see that every organization in Kerala will be using open source for their business needs 

     ILUG should take initiative in arranging free regular workshop for IT professional in implementing open source solutions for their business needs
