Hello All,
What has been the vision of a single man, has turned out be one of the
biggest
revolution in the field of Software. Why, even it has influenced other
fields
and the concept of Swathanthra/ Free Software; which is simply based on
the principles
of "Freedom" and "Truth"; has become a social movement for the better of
Mankind.
Let us think back 25 years to see how GNU has brought about this revolution
and wish GNU
"Happy 25 years".

25 years ago Richard Stallman started the GNU <http://www.gnu.org/>
(”Gnu’s Not Unix”) project to create a computer operating system like
Unix (then ascendant in computer labs like the one Stallman worked in),
but with source code free for programmers to run, study, share, and improve.
Free software from the GNU project now powers in the range of billions
of computers, from microcontrollers and mobile phones to the Googleplex.
Even software at the core of notoriously proprietary Apple’s OS X
<http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GNU_Compiler_Collection> comes directly
from the GNU project. Often, software from the GNU project is paired
with the Linux kernel to form the base of a free operating system.

We might as well enjoy some chocolate cake with Stephen Fry.

GNU was announced on September 27 1983, which happens to be on Spetember
28 in India, which is when our
September Meeting is scheduled. A great coincidence.
Probably we will have some small celebration and remember the transformation
that the GNU Project has brought about in these 25 years, and the man
behind all of it Richard Mathew Stallman.
Once again
"Happy 25 to GNU"
Thank You
Regards
